Why so serious?! If you are like us, you have found it hard to find things to laugh about. Working to change the world is grueling and daunting work, but the pursuit of happiness is what we are fighting for! So we are making time to LAUGH! Busboys and Poets is pleased to introduce COMEDY NIGHT in Takoma.
Come out and get your ribs tickled, massage your funny bone, slap a knee or two. Because LAUGHTER is an act of resistance!
Produced by Allan Sidley:
A comedian, improviser, and lyricist, Allan is a jack off all trades. Allan's style is dry, and a little wet from perspiration, usually. He pokes fun at Jews, mostly his Mom & Grandma, and dissects cultural taboos like online dating while balding or being a better +1 for a funeral than a wedding. Often serious with hints of silly, Allan manages to keep dark topics light-hearted and his audiences on their toes (so bring comfortable footwear). His comedy has been described as, "great for first dates."
He's opened (the door for) Sinbad, and toured throughout Eastern Europe in the summer of 2011 (not for comedy, just a fun fact). He did however recently feature at the Cozzys Comedy Club, DC Drafthouse, open at Laugh Index Festival 2018, and was a member of the Unkosher Comedy Tour.
Comedians:
Dan Kapr: Dan was born with part of his face missing, and since then he’s only gotten funnier. A cleft palate survivor, he was known to childhood friends as “the boy who can drink through his nose.” Dan spent years working a variety of jobs: He ran youth programs, organized court files, and hassled senior citizens to make payments on their timeshares. He even spent one summer chasing bears away from campers (seriously!). Then one day, while handling urine samples for carnival employees, he thought to himself, “Now that I’ve achieved all my dreams, how can I give something back to the world?” Soon after that, he became a stand-up comedian. Inspired by comics like Mitch Hedberg and Steven Wright, Dan specializes in one-liners with an absurdist edge. He was was recently featured in the Burbank Comedy Festival’s “Best of the Fest” showcase. Those who see him perform are guaranteed a memorable, bear-free experience.
Yasmin Elhady: Yasmin has performed all over the DMV and the country at places like the DC Drafthouse Comedy Theater, Cellar Door, NYU, & Stanford. She toured the UK on the Super Muslim Comedy Tour with PennyAppeal UK last year. Her alter ego is "Yasguru," a hyper active relationship advisor with silly videos on Instagram and YouTube.
Greg Stevens: Greg is young veteran in the world of stand-up comedy, quickly captivating audiences with his unique and energetic style. Born and raised in Washington, DC Greg has been performing at clubs and colleges all over the country. He's opened and featured for national headliners such as Rickey Smiley, Paul Rodriguez, Michael Coylar and Nicole Byer. He blew audiences away as a featured act at the First Annual DC Comedy Fest in 2005. He's performed at various well known comedy clubs all over America such as the New York Improv, DC Improv, The Laugh Factory (LA), The Laugh House (Philadelphia), The Comedy Village (NYC), Caesars Palace (Las Vegas), Rascals (Baltimore), and The Virginia House of Comedy (Virginia Beach). Greg looks forward to making people laugh in the new millennium.
Gigi Modrich: Gigi is a small town girl trying to make a living in the big city. Indian law practitioner by day, comedienne and roller derby queen by night. Real life Indian day and night. When she’s not hitting women on the track as Nasty Pelosi, she’s making a name for herself on the comedy scene. She's performed at Dangerfield's Comedy Club and Broadway Comedy Club in NYC, the DC Improv, and many other places throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. She’s also hosted at the 2018 Charm City Comedy Festival. Gigi is sarcastically optimistic and aspires to make you laugh so hard your drink comes out your nose.
Mike Brown: Michael Brown, aka Mike.B, first felt the nudge toward comedy in his hometown of Norfolk, Virginia where his affection for the art form was nurtured and cultivated. After serving in the United States Army for nine years as a soldier (and receiving various awards for his service and valor) he decided it was time to launch his comedy career. Due to his friendly and engaging personality he was immediately likable, and quickly began hosting shows at various venues throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Davine Ker: Davine is a stand up comedian, improvisor, musical improviser, Moth StorySLAM winner, actor, visual artist and a musician. Davine paints a picture with thought provoking jokes, concepts and storytelling. She caters to your comedy appetite while sharing her laugh story with decadent wit cream. She has performed throughout the DC area and as a featured stand up in shows in New York, Florida, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, California, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Montreal, Canada.
Seating is first come first served. Full menu & bar will be available throughout the event. $10 tickets available on Eventbrite.
