What does it feel like to be a Muslim today, in the era of Trump? How can we come together to overcome Islamophobia and harmful stereotypes? Jon Bubsoys and Poets as we welcome Farhana Qazi and Wajahat Ali to discuss discuss deeper issues surrounding ISIS and Islamophobia that affect all of us. Farhana and Wajahat will discuss misunderstandings and misconceptions of Islam, conflicts in the Muslim world, and how to bridge our differences and create unity. Farhana Qazi's book, Invisible Martyrs: Inside the Secret World of Female Islamic Radicals, an exploration on what drives women of all ages and backronds to join radical Islamic movements like ISIS, will also be available.
Farhana Qazi is an American scholar and internationally recognized public speaker. She has spent nearly twenty years studying conflicts in the Muslim world, violent extremism and women in war. For her service to the U.S. military, Farhana received the 21st Century Leader Award, presented by the National Committee on American Foreign Policy in New York, and the Humanitarian Award for her study of women in conflict. She has appeared on CNN, BBC television and radio, Public Broadcasting Service, National Public Radio, Fox News, C-Span, Bloomberg, ABC News, Canadian national television, Voice of America, Al-Jazeera, The Daily Ledger Show and more.
