Get ready for an electrifying afternoon as Regie Cabico, dubbed "The Fairy Godmother of DC Spoken Word" by The Washington Post, emcees the first-ever Middle School Student Open Mic!
Middle school students are invited to step up and share their voices—whether through original poetry, storytelling, spoken word, rap, song, or even dance. Each event in the series will highlight a featured teacher and a student spotlight, making it a true community celebration of young voices.
Come cheer on young artists as they speak their truth to power!
Regie Cabico is a pioneer in spoken word and one of the first openly queer and Asian slam poets to take the national stage. A three-time National Poetry Slam Champion, his work has been featured on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, TEDx, NPR’s Snap Judgment, and in publications like The New York Times and The Washington Post. As a poet, educator, and coach, Cabico has mentored countless young artists, helping them find their voice through performance and storytelling. His high-energy, dynamic presence continues to shape the spoken word scene, making poetry accessible and empowering for all.
