As the Chief of Culture & Arts at DC SCORES and the Director of Poetry Events at Busboys and Poets, she has become a leading voice in the DMV’s spoken word scene. With over a decade of experience, Charity has graced stages across the country, using poetry as a tool for storytelling, healing, and activism. Her work explores themes of grief, identity, empowerment, and social justice, delivering each piece with unapologetic truth and electrifying energy. K Love’s poetry has been featured on national platforms such as BET, TV One, and Def Poetry Jam, and she has shared the stage with some of the most influential voices of our time. A poetic force and truth-teller, Carlynn Newhouse is a National Poetry Slam Champion, educator, and advocate whose words ignite movements and spark change. Her poetry is a powerful testament to the experiences of Black women, social justice, and personal healing, blending vulnerability with an unwavering demand for equity. Carlynn has graced prestigious stages, including the Apollo Theater and the Women of the World Poetry Slam, leaving audiences inspired and transformed. When she’s not on stage, she is actively involved in arts education, helping young poets find their voices and claim their stories. Her work is both a mirror and a call to action—a reminder that poetry is revolution, and every voice matters.
A poet whose words bridge history, identity, and activism, Marjan Naderi is a powerful storyteller who speaks truth to power. As an Iranian-American poet and educator, she uses her platform to uplift marginalized voices, exploring themes of immigration, feminism, resistance, and cultural identity. A force of nature on the mic, KaNikki Jakarta is an award-winning poet, author, and the first African American Poet Laureate of Alexandria, VA. KaNikki’s work explores themes of love, loss, resilience, and empowerment, challenging societal norms and giving voice to the silenced. Beyond poetry, she is a dedicated mentor and educator, nurturing the next generation of spoken word artists. She has been featured at the Kennedy Center, The National Museum of African American History and Culture, and countless poetry festivals, solidifying her place as a literary luminary.
