Verbal Boxing - A Benefit for Midtown Youth Academy. Join the friends of Midtown Youth Academy in the Langston Room for a fun evening of lyrical sparring, music, poetry, and comedy at the original Busboys and Poets location at 14th & V Streets, NW. Tickets are only $20 (or $9 for College Students) for this benefit show raising funds for renovations and new equipment at MYA, which has been operating on 14th Street for over 40 years.
Spoken word poets will compete in a slam competition, rappers will battle, comedians will make you laugh, and the DJ and musicians will keep us all grooving.

ABOUT MIDTOWN:
Founded in 1977 by Eugene R. Hughes, a boxing trainer and drug abuse counselor who was acutely aware of the conditions that led DC youth to get involved in drug addiction and crime, the Midtown Youth Academy has provided boxing lessons as a therapeutic recreational outlet and an after-school tutoring program in test preparation, technology, arts, entrepreneurship, and other skills for DC youth.
