Nationalism: Black Identity and American Belonging

For many Black Americans, the concept of nationality in the U.S. is deeply rooted in the historical fight for inclusion and recognition. An alignment with Black Nationalism can symbolize solidarity with other members of the African diaspora. But for those born here, what does it mean to embrace American nationalism? How does it differ from patriotism?

Recent events, including the presidential election and Beyoncé's unforgettable NFL Christmas performance, have reignited conversations about nationalism.

Join us at Busboys and Poets with featured guest DR. JARED BALL for a powerful community discussion as we unpack these important ideas. Together, we’ll dive into the historical and cultural roots of nationalism, explore its impact on identity, and examine how it shapes our understanding of what it means to be "American."

Let’s Keep Talking!

ACTOR (A Continuing Talk on Race)

---

A.C.T.O.R. (A Continuing Talk on Race) is a public discussion series. It provides the opportunity for people to come together and speak openly and honestly about issues of race, class and culture. The intent is that each person walks away from the discussion feeling something: challenged, educated, uncomfortable, enlightened, refreshed, reassured and hopefully inspired and moved to action!

On the last Sunday of each month, there is a new topic for discussion
