Ethical, pondering, and wondrous, adrienne maree brown’s LOVING CORRECTIONS is a collection of love-based adjustments and reframes to grow our movements for liberation while navigating a society deeply fractured by greed, racism, and war. In this landmark book, brown invigorates her influential writing on belonging and accountability into the framework of “loving corrections”; a generative space where rehearsals for the revolution become the everyday norm in relating to one another.
Filled with practical wisdom on how to be a trustworthy communicator while providing bold visions for a shared future, LOVING CORRECTIONS can speak to everyone caught in the crossroads of our political challenges and potential. No matter how new to the struggle, or how numerous our failures, brown’s indispensable writing is an invitation to us all.
adrienne maree brown is joining us on the Busboys stage alongside community organizer Aja Taylor and poet Nicole Newman to discuss why we need each other more than ever and dive deeper into our understanding of community. Copies of the book will be available for purchase during and after the event, and brown will be signing following the program.
All attendees will be required to wear masks at the request of the author.
Please note that all Busboys and Poets Book events are hosted with a first-come, first-serve seating policy. If you do not arrive within 15 minutes of the program's start time, we consider that a forfeit of your ticket and will give that seat to other community member(s).
This event is free and open to all. Our program begins at 6:00 pm, and will be followed by an audience Q&A. Copies of LOVING CORRECTIONS will be available for purchase before and after the event. Please note that this event is in person and will not be livestreamed.
We ask that guests RSVP in order to receive direct updates about the event from Busboys and Poets Books
adrienne maree brown grows healing ideas in public. She is a student of the works of Octavia E. Butler and Ursula K. Le Guin. Some of her books include Emergent Strategy, Pleasure Activism, We Will Not Cancel Us, and the speculative fiction trilogy, Grievers. She is the editor of the Emergent Strategy Series.
Aja Taylor is a community organizer, facilitator (of meetings, magic and mischief), student of the world, abolition and Black people’s relationship to the erotic. She is a Professional Dominatrix known in community as Goddess Honey B, and a self-proclaimed Black Feminist Freak. Based primarily in DC, her work is rooted in the belief that Black women and gender-expansive people deserve it all--especially safe, healthy housing that they can afford, workplaces that affirm their leadership and compensate them fairly for their labor, and sexual experiences that are affirming, chosen, consistently pleasurable and always consensual. She currently serves as the Advocacy & Organizing Director at Bread for the City, is a co-founder & co-conspirator at Two Brown Girls consulting cooperative. She is a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom (NCSF). She is also co-curating a deliciously kinky anthology to be published by AK Press and released in the Pleasure Activism lineage.
Nicole Newman (she/her) is a poet, organizer, and creative with deep roots as a fourth-generation Washingtonian. Nicole began her writing journey in middle school through programs like DC Writers Corp, and her passion for storytelling has continued to grow, with her contributing to multiple online and polished anthologies and collections. This love for poetry culminated in her current work on a poetry book titled Gather Her Ashes. Nicole holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Trinity University and a Master's in Organizational Development from American University. She is currently the Executive Director of Critical Exposure, a youth organization, and co-founder of 2 Brown Girls a consulting cooperative, and Racial Healing and Wellness a cohort-based coaching program for women. Nicole's interests include traveling, unicorns, the Enneagram, and spending time with her son and partner. Her work and life are driven by a commitment to creating more just people-focused communities and organizations and exploring joy and love as paths for transformation.
