Join the longest, continuously operating cooperative nonprofit literary small press in the United States for a holiday literary event
Washington Writers’ Publishing House was established in 1975 in our nation’s capital; they have published over 100 volumes of poetry as well in more recent years fiction and nonfiction. The press sponsors three annual competitions for writers living in DC, Maryland, and Virginia, and the winners of each category (one each in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction) comprise their annual slate. In 2021, WWPH launched an online literary journal, WWPH WRITES to expand their mission to further the creative work of writers in our region. In 2023, WWPH added creative nonfiction to their annual press slate. In 2024, WWPH launched their biennial works in translation series and started to undertake WWPH Literary Salons, free-of-charge workshops. readings, and discussions to engage with new and established writers and foster the richness and diversity of the literary arts in our community.
Varun Gauri, winner of the 2024 WWPH Fiction Prize, Holly Karapetkova, Melanie Hatter, Steven Leyva, Robert Williams, and Elizabeth Bruce are joining us on the Busboys stage to celebrate WWPH’s 50th anniversary. The program will be hosted by co-presidents of WWPH, Caroline Bock & Jona Colson. Copies of the authors’ books will be available for purchase during and after the event, and they will be signing following the program.
This event is free and open to all and our program begins at 5:00 pm. Please note that this event is in person and will not be livestreamed.
We ask that guests RSVP in order to receive direct updates about the event from Busboys and Poets Books
