Marta Golden, author of The New Black Woman: Loves Herself, Has Boundaries, and Heals Every Day and The Strong Black Woman: How a Myth Endangers the Physical and Mental Health of Black Women will moderate a panel discussion about the urgent issue of mental health in the Black community, and how individuals and families can find and create the supportive systems needed to sustain health and wellness featuring:
Dr. William Lawson is a Clinical Professor at The George Washington University, and is Professor Emeritus, at Dell Medical School University of Texas, and Professor Emeritus, at Howard University College of Medicine. He is the author of the book African American Health: Peeling Back the Layers for a Vision of the Future.
Dr. Amber Thornton is a clinical psychologist and Motherhood Wellness consultant. She is the founder of the website community Balanced Working Mamas, host of the Balance Working Mamas podcast and author of A Parent's Guide to Self-Regulation A Practical Framework for Breaking the Cycle of Dysregulation and Mastering Emotions for Parents and Children
Faitth Brooks is the author of Remember Me Now: A Journey Back to Myself and a Love Letter to Black Women and a speaker, social worker, activist and co-host of the Melanated Faith podcast.
Marita Golden, Dr. Amber Thornton, Faith Brooks and Dr. William Lawson are joining us on the Busboys stage to partake in a community forum on mental health in the Black community. Copies of the panel's books will be available for purchase during and after the event, and the panel will be signing following the program.
This event is free and open to all. Our program begins at 6:00 pm, and will be followed by an audience Q&A. Copies of the speakers' books will be available for purchase before and after the event. Please note that this event is IN PERSON and WILL be livestreamed.
