Description:

Join Damien Geter, composer of An African American Requiem for a discussion with musical excerpts and audience Q&A about his bold, thought-provoking musical response to violence against African Americans in the United States.

Combining traditional Latin Requiem texts with civil rights declarations, poetry, and the famous last words of Eric Garner, “I can’t breathe,” this Geter’s honors past and present victims of racial violence and hopes this work will spur reflection on how to build a more hopeful future.

The first 50 attendees will receive a complimentary ticket to the east-coast premiere on Monday, May 23, 2022, at 7:00 pm in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall.
