What do social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook have to do with a plausible genocide, and how does apartheid unfold online as it does in real life?
As Palestinians faced unprecedented levels of Israeli violence over the past 15 months, so too have their digital rights been under brutal attack and subject to more violations than ever before. Voices are being silenced, entire narratives erased. Now, as a fragile ceasefire takes hold in Gaza, we must urgently work to build a safe, secure and equitable digital space for Palestinians. That begins with holding the Big Tech companies complicit in the repression of Palestinians to account.
7amleh (pronounced ham-leh) is a nonprofit organization that is at the forefront of fighting the violation of Palestinian digital rights.
On Wednesday, January 29th at 7pm, Busboys & Poets will host 7amleh’s Founder and General Director Nadim Nashif in a moderated discussion on Big Tech’s Complicity in Apartheid and Genocide. Nashif will be joined on the Busboys stage by Abed Ayoub, National Executive Director for American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC).
