Description:

Join us for a celebration of the Kurdish and Iranian New Year, Nowruz.

This evening will be filled with great food, drinks, music and art. Featuring:

  • Michael L. Chyet : an American linguist and author of Kurdish-American dictionary
  • Kani Xulam: Kurdish activist and director of the American Kurdish Information Network in DC
  • Sirwan Kajjo: Writer and Journalist
  • Jani Diylan : Musician and Journalist
  • Azad Yalçin : Musician, Tambur player.
  • Lukman Ahmad: Artist-painter and Tambur player (Tambur is a Kurdish musical instrument)

The Kurdish and Iranian New Year celebration is called Nowruz, which means new day in Kurdish, Farsi, the official language of Iran.  Nowruz is celebrated on the first day of spring, March 20th or March 21st, Spring Equinox.
