Rise + Rhyme is a weekly morning storytelling and performance series for children ages 5 and under with the goals of teaching children to engage with their community, learn to love performing and become rising artivists!
Featuring: Frolic The Fox
Did you know that “Reading Makes Fairy Dust”? Time to imagine, play, sing, move, read and "talk with our hands" in a unique, whole-body and nourishing experience for ALL children (and their adults). Kathryn Para writes the music her family has needed, with their Neuro-Diversity/ Autism Spectrum in mind, full of playful guidance, growth mindset, social skills, transitions tools, "toddle tricks" and (simple) sign language.
Kathryn Para (the human that looks like Frolic the Fox) began writing the ditties and music her young family needed. With the Autism Spectrum and "Neuro-Diversity" in mind, the music has “grown up” with her children. Her interactive, whole-body music nourishes the audience with tools of connection, social skills, learning, guiding, playful parenting, and growth mindset intertwined in a fun, imaginative experience for parents and adults. Kathryn has played with audiences for over a decade at camps, outdoor education centers, schools, bookstores, many national parks, festivals and charity events. She has “frolicked” regularly for years at Busboys and Poets locations, Anne Arundel County, Maryland outdoor education center “Arlington Echo” and Annapolis’s iconic Old Fox Books, where "Frolic the Fox" emerged for the youngest audiences (and quickly outgrew the venue). She has also reached a goal of teaching a thousand individuals across the country ukulele with her ukulele teaching method, “Ukify”. Kathryn found much inspiration while traveling and living full-time with her family RV for a few years while “world-schooling" her daughters, teaching and performing at amazing places. As a medically retired soldier and disabled veteran she feels her work and music as a continuation of her service and finds great purpose in creating and sharing music with families- and especially enjoys hearing from families when they are able to bring the music into their lives in special ways. She holds a Master Certificate in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music Online, where she currently attends as she is working on her first album.

We ask that caregivers teach each child how to begin to support performing arts with a $5 admission per child. Additional donations for the performer are always appreciated.
Rise + Rhyme is held every Monday morning in Hyattsville, MD and Takoma & Brookland, 14th & V DC and the 2nd and 4th Monday at Anacostia, and every last Tuesday of the month at 9:30 AM at Busboys and Poets in Shirlington.
