McCain loses New Hampshire

The Granite State has marked successful last stands for the Arizona Senator many times before, both in this year the Democratic tide has proved to be too much.  In the state that sparked the legitmacy of his candidacy in 2000 and marked his comeback from disarray this year Senator Obama will emerge victorious. ABC News [...]

Democratic Gains as B&P Heats Up

The atmosphere at Busboys & Poets gets more intense by the hour as results continue to come in.  Members of local media intermingle with patrons as camera flashlights show the way through the crowd.  I’m seated at a reserve table just off the main projection room marked “Blog Spot”, the perfect place to people watch.  [...]

The undecided in Indiana

I was in Indiana not long ago (about a month ago), where I was talking with someone who was genuinely undecided whether to vote for Obama or McCain.  I was polite, of course, but what runs through my mind now is David Sedaris’s priceless column in the New Yorker two weeks ago, where he compared [...]

McCain 34, Obama 77

But still too early to really know!  I want to see advanced ballot totals for Florida, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.  CNN is a little too aggressive for my taste in calling winners.  I like the New York Times better, they take their time.  But still, it’s looking good, especially in Florida.  People are very excited here, [...]

In a huge landslide of states being called, CNN projects Obama to take 8 states surging him to a 77 to 34 lead in the Electoral College: Massachusetts Illinois Connecticut Delaware New Jersey Maryland District of Columbia Maine For John McCain, he captures two very red states: Tennessee and Oklahoma. Chants of “Yes We Can” [...]

South Carolina

John McCain wins Stephen Colbert’s home state, the one he attempted to enter the Republican primary as a candidate this fall until the GOP decided they had seen enough and got him tossed off the ballot.  The electoral college score currently stands at 16-3 for McCain.  Long way to go.

Obama is ahead in Florida

…though that’s still based on a slender percentage of the ballots, so I’m holding off on the celebration.  People are cheering various other early numbers in other states, like Virginia, but WAY too early.  It’ll be another hour or so before we have some real results, and maybe not even then.

We’re in it now

With North Carolina, Ohio, Florida, and West Virginia now having closed, the night is in full swing. *That would be your key to pop the pepto bismol if need be.

The crowd at Busboys and Poets

It’s easy to tell when there’s good news: a cheer goes up and I look up from the keyboard! Warner’s ahead in Virginia, which is very good news because it could be a Democratic pickup in that state. The mood’s excited and convivial. It’s a great night for the proprietor of Busboys and Poets, who [...]

The Undercard

As much as I am getting caught up in the fervor over Obama’s march to the Oval Office, it’s important to keep updated on the “down-ticket” races as the Democrats attempt to pile on to their majority in the House and Senate.  In Kentucky, Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell is locked into a tight race [...]
