Goodbye, Sarah Palin

Seeing Sarah Palin go back to Alaska will be one of the sublimest pleasures of this election.  To me, Palin was about prizing ignorance over wisdom, thuggishness over intelligence.  She told the rural farmers of Virginia that they were the “real America.”  They are — but so are the orthodontists of New Jersey, the professors [...]

Question of When, Not If

Finally with confidence we can say that all we are left to determine is the size of the victory, not whether it will happen. To all the committed supporters that have been on board since 2007, and some since 2004, this is a night that is surreal, ecstatic, and dramatic.

Obama wins Ohio!!! And, a good night to run a restaurant

With Pennsylvania and Ohio in the bag, it’s all but over for the Republicans. I can’t help thinking, it must be a good night for Andy Shallal, the Iraqi-American who runs this place.  Running any small business is a stressful affair, with tugs in all directions from customers, staffers, landlords, and creditors, but there have [...]

Obama fails to pull a Kennedy in West Virginia

One comparison to JFK that will unfortunately not be appropriate this election season is Obama’s failure to replicate JFK’s shocking Democratic win in 1960 that helped solidify his victory.  The result pushes McCain up to 69 Electoral College votes compared to Obama’s 174.

BREAKING: Obama’s Chief of Staff

Reports are beginning to surface that Rahm Emmanual, the Illinois Congressman, has been offered the job of Chief of Staff in the Obama White House.  According to Politico’s Ben Smith, he is “agonizing” over it.  This selection has been a badly-kept secret around the media for the past few days, and more attention is being [...]

In case you enjoy anxiety

As the atmosphere here at B&P grows in optimistic tension, here’s a quick nugget from CNN’s James Carville to keep you down to earth:  McCain is looking stronger than predicted in Virginia as he continues to hold a lead while the incoming results trend further and further towards Northern Virginia. Still, his path remains daunting, as [...]

Liddy Dole goes down; a whole raft of calls for Obama

It’s looking like a very good night for us Dems.  CNN just called a bunch more states for Obama, including Wisconsin.  Liddy Dole is DOWN, and that feels realllly good.  We’re watching the crackup of the politics of fear, greed, and violence. Dems just passed 51 seats in the Senate.  The number I want to [...]

BREAKING: PA FOR OBAMA

Folks, it’s over.  Pennsylvania has been called by CNN which leaves McCain with very “exotic” options, as Politico’s Ben Smith put it.  He basically needs to win every single western state, and keep Florida and Ohio as well as others. B&P absolutely rocked when the news broke as we inch closer tonight.  Unnamed sources from [...]

Hagan ahead of Dole, 57% to 40%

…which is very good news, even though the percentage of ballots counted is still low.  Dole ran a loathsome campaign, accusing her opponent of being “godless.”  Wow, I want to see the Republicans go down in North Carolina, where I wore out a lot of shoe leather fighting Jesse Helms. With 1% of ballots in [...]
